On a national level, Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority has adopted the . As the default charity for undergraduate sisterships
that have not adopted their own, sisters are diverting their time, funds
and resources into the Center. At our Summer Convention and our Spring
Gala, sisters raise funds that allow the NYAWC to maintain and expand
their work.
Through this unique partnership, our women put an extraordinary
amount of care and effort into this worthy charity. Alumnae have
focused corporate donations into the NYAWC's budgets, and all sisters
have worked to ensure that their events have been a success. The television campaign that raises
public awareness for the NYAWC was produced and edited by one of our very own alumnae. The Gala at the TriBeCa Rooftop
found alumnae mixing with the likes of Yoko Ono while helping out
at the live and silent auctions. And, one of the
Annual Childrens' Picnics where sisters volunteered was called "the most successful picnic
yet" by the NYAWC staff.
Sigma Psi Zeta National applauds
the work of the NYAWC, and urges our sisters and friends alike
to continue to combat all violence
against women everywhere.
The New York Asian Women's Center works with women and children
whose lives are affected by domestic violence, to enable them
to live safe and independent lives. As the first domestic violence
organization to serve Asian communities in New York City, and
one of the first in the nation, the Center recognizes that ending
violence is a systematic issue and cannot be solved on an isolated,
individual level. By helping women and children end violence at
home, and at the same time, bringing domestic violence to the
fore front of the Asian community's consciousness, the New York
Asian Women's Center serves as a vehicle for placing the concerns
of Asian women and children on the agenda for community change.
